In this June 24, 2020 photo, Dean Loveland, a worker at the Hard Rock casino in Atlantic City N.J., installs plexiglass barriers between player positions at a card table at the casino a week before it was to reopen amid the coronavirus outbreak. Smoking, drinking and eating will all be prohibited when Atlantic City's casinos reopen after being shut for three months due to the coronavirus outbreak under rules imposed by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on June 29, 2020.
But New Jersey will ban both, again, when Atlantic City’s nine casinos reopen after more than three months of coronavirus-related shutdowns. The top-performing casino, the Borgata, almost immediately folded what it saw as a losing hand, announcing it was scrapping its reopening plans for the immediate future. Instead, it will wait until conditions are more favorable.
Before the pandemic, Atlantic City had started to regain its groove, reclaiming its former spot at the nation’s No. 2 gambling market behind Nevada in terms of annual gambling revenue. McDevitt said 60% of his union members had been scheduled to return to work this week. Now, as few as 30% may go back.
Doesn’t make any sense. Currently 5 surveys out right now showing that smokers rarely get sick from Covid. So what is the real agenda here?
Why even bother going. It's only the desperadoes that love to gamble that will go anyway. With all these restrictions are you kidding? No doubt the machines will be tighter than ever before and they were bad before COVID-19. Somebody has to make up for the lost revenue!
No one is gonna go if all you’re allowed to do is sit there in a mask and watch yourself lose money lol. I say this as someone who loves to go to AC but won’t be going until it’s fully back. Borgata was smart to stay closed.
Ohhhh so you mean no fun?
Gee, sounds like loads of fun
Well, screw that trip.
After all these months, no way they can let you win a dime...don't bother. Only .50 cent players will show up out of boredom.
Wouldn't even consider a visit, until the smoking & drinking were reinstated ! That's the hook . . . as long as your gambling. . . booze were free !
Boy that sounds like loads of fun. Lets all go outside and watch the grass grow.
B
Again the smurf over stepping and destroying livelihoods.
If you can’t go somewhere without drinking booze, you’ve got a problem
No booze? On every block of Atlantic Ave & Pacific Ave there's a liquor store, a bar, a pizza & sub shop & a half dozen working women in short skirts and young men selling drugs. By 9 pm, the casino hotel rooms will be full of alcohol. NJDeptofHealth NewJerseyOAG LtGovOliver
Just make it no smoking. Should have been canned long ago anyway.
👍 sounds good
WE ARE STILL IN A FREAKING PANDEMIC IDIOTS!!! You all wanna re-open so bad then keep your staff and patrons safe! Can't have a casino if people get sick and die! Common sense.
Just will put bars on the boardwalk outside.
WHAT ABOUT MASKS !! As for the other problems MIT may help
No one needs casinos.
Wtf!?
They’re coming. Are you kidding me? They can’t wait.
Casinos with out food or drink? That is something I never imagined.
SWhyno also an enormous LOL at anyone who thinks people won’t go, or that the casinos will somehow make less money than if they’re not open at all
🤔
SWhyno sorry to hear you might actually survive this pandemic, casino union guy
My level of sympathy for their complaints.
Put a damn mask on ...WTF
Wondering what exactly is the point here? This is certainly not an essential business. The staff will be at risk. I’m sure it is based on the economy of the state and the economy of the area.
