No One Won the Pence-Harris Debate. But Trump Lost.

Photo: Getty Images Kamala Harris and Mike Pence debated Wednesday night. But the fine details of what they said are lost to modern memory. Archeologists have tried to piece together the events of that long-forgotten evening by assembling its few surviving fragments: There was a fly in the vice-president’s hair; there was bipartisan support for injecting sandy water into the Earth to bring forth more fuels with which to fry the planet. Of these things, we are certain.

But this isn’t the only sense in which Trump was the night’s big loser. There was also the fact that Pence’s pedestrian performance put his own to shame — and thereby, shot one more hole into the myth of the president’s political gifts. 2) Responded to his own hospitalization for COVID-19 by assuring Americans that a virus that’s already killed 210,000 U.S. residents is not that dangerous, and that they should not let it “dominate” their lives — without bothering to say one empathetic word for those who are grieving.

Sure, someone won; depends what you're looking for though. If you're looking for evasiveness, oral forgery you got your candidate. And if you're looking for boring authenticity you got that as well. Take your pick who the winner is.

Pence is as animated as a pull-string toy. He's lifeless. By contrast, Trump is lively, animated, and has a personality. Unfortunately, Trump is a fascist and a raving wacko with a tenuous grip on reality. Neither man is somebody you would put in charge of anything important.

Literally no one is a more generic republican politician than Mike Pence. I kept expecting him to say 'I'm not a politician, but I play one one TV' during the debate.

so many things wrong with this tweet. the debate was the opposite of “jarringly normal” and kamala so clearly won the debate. pitiful reporting.

Pence crushed her. I was really surprised by that. She seemed like a snotty little girl. I expected a lot more from Kamala.

And...a red eye can be a symptom of Covid-19. Mikey still needs to be tested to be sure, but think how bad he'll look in a couple of days if it turns out he attended the debate although he had reason to know he might be infected.
