DALLAS — Emotional-support animals are no longer free to roam about the cabin on Southwest Airlines either.
The airline said Monday that it will let passengers bring trained service dogs in the cabin, but it will no longer accept support animals, starting March 1. Customers who want to bring a dog or cat on board as a pet will have to pay a fee, and the animal must be kept in a carrier that fits under an airplane seat.
The move follows a Transportation Department decision to reverse a yearslong regulation and let airlines ban animals that owners claim provide emotional support. Airlines said some passengers abused the old rules to avoid pet fees.
If you need one of these animals I really think that you should not be traveling out of your house. The world can be a rough place.
I see a business opportunity for some kind of operation to swoop in and provide short and long haul trips to people with their animals. I don’t care if it’s for emotional support or not, animals do not belong in baggage.

Shhhhhh.... no one wants you “blanket forts“ or your emotional support animals on a plane. They killed two birds with one stone..... if you need a turtle as a friend and security blanket, flying on a plane is the least of your issues.
In the day and age of terroristic threats and what is going on, as well as Threats to planes and passengers/airline employees, if you are so unstable you need an emotional support pet, you may not be emotionally sta LS enough where you aren’t a threat to yourself or others.
Seriously people? Why not create stricter ESA policies? Required basic behavior training course, muzzle required while in flight/on airport property, etc

People always ruin it for themselves & others. Altho my dog is an emotional support (tiny) dog I still paid her $150. fee one way for flying under my seat in a waffle iron type carrier.
You can, of course, rent an emotional-support animal at your destination.
