Texas QB Quinn Ewers likely will be a bigger part of the game plan against Baylor than he was in last week’s win over Kansas.AUSTIN — Texas can be thankful it gets to play a meaningful post-Thanksgiving game a year after skidding into its annual Black Friday finale with a losing record.
Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen has nearly as many turnovers as touchdown passes this season, so expect Texas to stack the box to try forcing the Bears to air it out.A year ago, Texas spent Senior Day at DKR just trying to avoid ending its season with seven straight losses. This year, the Longhorns are playing for more than pride.
And with Texas set to join the SEC in 2025 — 2024 is also in play, though athletic director Chris Del Conte has said the Longhorns will honor their current grant of rights agreement with the conference — time is running out for the program to add another Big 12 trophy to its collection. And while Baylor’s defense has dropped off from last year, it has still been one of the conference’s most opportunistic. It leads the Big 12 with 13 interceptions in league play and ranks second in defensive passing efficiency.
“After the season I’ll assess everything,” Robinson said Monday of his future plans. “But we’ll see.”
