AUSTIN, TEXAS - NOVEMBER 10: Christian Bishop #32 of the Texas Longhorns blocks a shot by Pierce Bazil #2 of the Houston Christian Huskies in the second half of the game between the Houston Christian Huskies and the Texas Longhorns at Moody Center on November 10, 2022 in Austin, Texas.AUSTIN — It took 14 seconds for Houston Christian to realize this probably wasn’t going to be its night.
Six players scored in double figures for Texas in its 82-31 win over Houston Christian at the Moody Center Thursday night. Guards Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice paced all scorers with 11 points apiece, while freshman Dillon Mitchell collected his first double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds in 18 minutes. Allen added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Huskies weren’t exactly a comparable practice test for the incoming Zags, long one of the nation’s elite programs. But Texas dominated an inferior opponent from start to finish, and it did so while avoiding any injuries. Despite the scoreboard dominance, Texas left the arena late Thursday night with at least one major concern.
Asked afterwards whether long-range shooting is a concern with Gonzaga’s powerhouse offense coming to town next, Beard said he told his team to just “stay the course.”
