Nick Saban and Jerry West sign letter asking Joe Manchin to support voting rights legislation

that Republican Senators will block it from advancing to a final vote.Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat from West Virginia, leaves the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, January 13, 2022. Senate Democratic leaders are seeking to pressure reluctant Democrats to change filibuster rules so that the voting rights legislation could clear the chamber on a simple majority vote.

Bloomberg/ Getty ImagesIn order for the Democrats to advance the legislation without Republican support, they will have to change filibuster rules and the minds of two Democratic holdouts: Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Manchin. In their letter to Manchin, the sports icons asked for protections against impartial conduct and score-keeping, and for elections to be open to all Americans.

Hello WestVirginiaAG WestVirginia hello So what? What makes their input valuable? Their “celebrity” status? We have voting rights. All Americans can vote. Why should anyone care? Nationalized Elections are a direct path to dictatorship. Biden doesn’t care who votes or not, he cares about who gets to count the votes.

Tell what they left out Build Back Better would have mended, weaved & stitchback America's quilted tapestry from decades of neglect. The bill provided all the needed support for American families, the very threads that hold together & strengthens the quilted tapestry of America. But for Manchin! Manchin's only interest is in his own self-preservation. He'll rationalize his selfish self-interests rather than follow his conscience. He'll vote to impeach Trump but deny families Build Back Better & now he won't even fight for the sanctity of the vote for all Americans!

Unless the letter comes with millions of dollars attached to it Manchin isn’t going to listen or care. WOW! Are they his constituents? Another reason the cheer when Alabama loses.

This bill might come up again. Next time, perhaps more people will like it if voters require an ID, and it’s not stuffed with other silly nonsense like candidate funding and ballot harvesting. Joe doesn't want to protect voting rights, are you serious? What the hell is wrong with him? 😳 What’s wrong with asking for an ID to vote?

“sABaN NEeDs tO wORry aBoUT GEorgIA” Saban is 7-2 against Georgia all Time 4-1 against Kirby Smart, pick a better insult cause that one don’t work. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 HOLY SHIT!!! Saban AND West!!! This changes everything 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣gtfo STAY WITH WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND STAY OUT OF POLITICS OR RUN FOR OFFICE NICK SABAN AND JERRY WEST

Onlyfans heyitscheese So what? So much respect for Nick Saban as a UGA Bulldog fan. This is awesome. Thank you, Nick! ✊🏾 Yes he absolutely should be fired. He has no business getting involved in political matters and especially, asking a “friend “ to sway his feelings

Poncipoet The History of the Filibuster History of debate in Senate belies received wisdom that filibuster was an original, constitutional feature of Senate. The filibuster is more accurately viewed as unanticipated consequence of an early change to Senate rules. All black athletes should refuse to play for college or professional teams where members of the state or federal legislature have voted like Manchin or Sinema.

Appreciate the efforts but I have a feeling this will only hurt. Giving this guy sooo much attention, especially this level of attention, just further pushes him to do nothing. BLACK ATHLETES boycott states that restrict voting rights. Those states make billions off of black athletes, NO MORE. blackathletes4votingrights

And this is supposed to do what exactly? This man basically told the President f you but he will now be reasonable because Nick Saban and Jerry West say so, yeah, right, ok....smdh 🤬🤬🤬 Add $5 to that and you have $5 Sen_JoeManchin at a minimum…you need to leave the Democratic Party. I bet there are a lot of bama college football fans that are terribly conflicted right now.. lol

alt_localgov Well, turns out Koch is much more persuasive than Saban or West. That’s star power at its best

You conveniently forgot to mention that Sabin also said we should keep the filibuster. Read the bill then read the constitution. Except Saban said at the bottom of His letter that “he doesn’t support ending the filibuster”, so once again—Don’t let the disguise fool you. Saban is no different than the rest of R’s. He’s just a good football coach.

Was the letter written on cash? He's a damn football coach....stay out of elections pal. You know nothing....Feds need to stay out of elections. This is a power grab to make sure Democrats stay in power forever. Keep elections free so Dems can't cheat. Shame on you Joe Manchin and your fellow anti-democratic cohort Kyrsten Sinema! You are doomed to fail in your next elections! I can 'see' the future and you are not in it! SHAME SHAME SHAME!

You can't persuade someone who is owned. Sifill_LDF Jerry. Mr West VA. So proud of him. It will take more than a letter!! 🖕🏾them

Oh, well since a couple of ancient athletes want it done, then by all means… 🙄 But it doesn’t say that. Wtf Neither of those guys own a coal mine in West Virginia so why should Joe listen to them? Saban and logo do realize that Manchin also supports the voting rights bill but just doesn't think the filibuster should be altered to push it through? Isn't that what Saban believes as well? Saban should sit this one out. Focus on how to beat GA when it matters!

wvd11_moo If god ask Manchin and Sinema to pass voting rights they probably wouldn’t. Totally absurd. Who cares what 2 coaches think? 160 exceptions to current filibuster. A Voting rights exception fits in with budgets & judges as critical to our democracy. Current filibuster rules were established in 1975, not 232 yrs ago. Manchin either thinks we're stupid, or doesn't care enough to make up good excuses.

jbminatra Unless they paid up nothing will happen If voting rights go down, democracy is likely to go down with it. The GOP has made it very clear what they think of democracy. The question is, who is willing to defend it? And don't think media will be safe either. Trump will pick Don Jr. to run CBS.

Outside their lanes God damnit. I thought I couldn’t hate Saban anymore than I do. Joe reads ? 🤡's Thank you Jerry! That’s class. butt out keep to sports got WOKED This just in! The right to vote is secure! Good for them, probably won't help because Manchin's owned by Republiklans and fearful of something, but nice try. I admire both.

Sen_JoeManchin You're SO WRONG thinking we don't care about the right to vote & ending the filibuster rule. That rule is STEALING democracy & you're complicit in THE STEAL! Dems in the Senate represent more than 41,000 citizens than Republicans. YOU'RE EITHER CORRUPTED OR ILL

Sign a check made out to Joe and he might listen to you guys. NomikiKonst Thought it’d be Emma retweeting this. ❤️ Cindy63306167 We are currently a minority controlled Senate! Gerrymandering & parliamentary tactics used by GOP-controlled states! Sinema and Manchin have proven they are following the money! The right to vote is at the heart of Democracy! Restricting that right is a throw back to Jim Crow!

It doesn’t matter what they do or who they send to ask them, for some reason, they will not support this or other Democratic desires. You must get at the root cause to their issue(s) which are causing them to refuse to support any other avenue towards protecting Voting rights!🤷🏾‍♀️ “King Coal”Joe M. Is too corrupt to see straight and help citizens of 🇺🇸. The other JoeBiden knows this already, Yeah?!?

Odd that anyone would need to be asked to support voting rights. Who cares what Nick Saban says. Keep to football, stay out of politics! nicksaban UA_Athletics AlabamaFTBL Joe won't care, he is a dirty coal boy. Looking out for HIMSELF. DjJetCityWoman Unless there’s a check for a few million dollars with it, there’s no chance it will sway him.

Tell the whole story cbsnews. What was at the bottom of Saban’s letter? Full disclosure! And even with his support it needs 60 votes to pass. Who the hell are they Don’t do it Joe I hope he ignores it. All these elites think they know what's best for us poor folks. They are wrong. We do not need a federal takeover of elections. We have the right to vote. Leave it alone! Govt always screws up everything they touch. From a WV voter.

Let's hear Nick Saban, and Jerry West explain what's in these 2 'voting rights' bills. Guaranteed they have no idea! LetsGoBrandonReallyMeans The media are full of shit. It’s no ID legislation. L Thank you, Coach Saban. More in your profession need to do this. Pointless . Manchin will support the bill, just not ending the filibuster. They’re all just trying to make themselves look good when this is nothing if consequence

🙋🏽‍♀️Ask GovWhitmer to support. I don't understand why this is even an issue. Voting rights for all Americans should be protected. No matter what area they live whether poor areas or the very richest areas. All voters great should be protected. This shouldn't even be a discussion. Protect black voters rights

Just lost all respect for Saban and West. Talent does not make you smart. Didn't see that coming...
