While it wasn’t announced why the league was suspending Gipson, ESPN reported it was due to a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy. San Fran loved what they saw from the veteran ballhawk and gave him a one-year deal for the 2023 season. Gipson started 16 regular-season games at free safety, tallying one interception, three passes defended, one sack and 60 combined tackles. Prior to playing a key role in a stacked 49ers defense, Gipson bounced around the league, starting with the Cleveland Browns for four seasons as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming in 2012.
