Eagles first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell out of Toledo defends Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. during a 2022 game in Columbus, Ohio.down the board and the Eagles jumped on the opportunity to get him by trading up one spot with the Chicago Bears.
Zierlein predicted Mitchell would be gone by the 12th pick to the Denver Broncos. ESPN’s Mel Kiper and Field Yates had him going No. 13 to the Raiders. Daniel Jeremiah ofRoseman, an admitted trade-aholic, decided this would be the draft he’d practice patience. Six of the first 12 picks were quarterbacks, which is sure to lead to some future disappointments. The first 14 picks were all offensive players. In total, a record 23 of the 32 players selected in the first round were on the offensive side.
Mitchell is a big cornerback — 6-foot and 195 pounds — and has elite speed. He ran a 4.33 at the scouting combine that was tied for the third fastest time. Time will tell, of course, if Mitchell can make the jump from the MAC to being an outstanding player in the NFL. It’s a huge step up, but some great players have come from those schools.
