A fast-moving brush fire near Yosemite National Park exploded in size Saturday into one of California's largest wildfires of the year, prompting evacuation orders for thousands of people.

By Saturday morning, the fire had destroyed 10 residential and commercial structures, damaged five others and was threatening 2,000 more structures, Cal Fire said. The blaze prompted numerous road closures, including a shutdown of Highway 140 between Carstens Road and Allred Road — blocking one of the main routes into Yosemite.

"The fire is moving quickly. This fire was throwing embers out in front of itself for up to 2 miles yesterday," Patterson said."These are exceptional fire conditions." The cause of the fire was under investigation. A shoeless older man attempting to flee the blaze on Friday crashed his sedan into a ditch in a closed area and was helped by firefighters. He was safely driven from the area and did not appear to suffer any injuries. Several other residents stayed in their homes Friday night as the fire burned nearby.

‘A lot of dead fuel’ challenges firefighters as Oak Fire grows to more than 14,000 acresThe blaze tore through 14,281 acres across Mariposa County and it remained 0% contained as of shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday, according to Cal Fire. So this started how? Every year, California residents have PTSD when we see a smoke plume. So much of our beautiful forests are potentially at risk. This is an annual event. Oak Fire explodes to 14,281 acres, Gov. Gavin Newsom declares state of emergency in Mariposa CountyThe Oak Fire, Mariposa County's third wildfire in two weeks, is spreading dangerously fast and has already destroyed 10 structures and forced more than 6,000 people to evacuate. Where’s the help from other states? I’m pretty sure the more people helping fight this fire the faster they can contain it. Wasn't the problem Trump? Or is it Jair Bolsonaro from Brazil who ordered the US to be set on fire?
