Multiple lawsuits against the Utah Department of Transportation officially emerged Wednesday afternoon in an effort to save the court time and resources.

A group of University of Utah students on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, hosted the Utah Department of Transportation leaders to discuss solutions to the traffic congestion issues in Little Cottonwood Canyon .

UDOT is still claiming the lawsuits are forcing them to not take action in Little Cottonwood Canyon despite the recent opposing statement. "I think the powers that be in Utah who are development, development, development, wanted this as a new toy,” Patrick Shea, an attorney representing Friends of Alta said of UDOT’s gondola decision.“They want to spend 1.4-billion of your taxpayer dollars to build a gondola that will only service three private, for-profit ski resorts, and it will totally blemish the skyline,” he said.

"You have 22 towers, the average height is 240 feet. The highest is 262 feet, and a gem in the Rockies will be forever changed,” Shea said.
