New Jersey native Destiny Adams finished with a double-double in her Scarlet Knights debut.

Adams, a former Manchester Township High School star and UNC transfer, finished with a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds, featuring some fancy footwork in the paint.

Rutgers led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter and had a 25-20 lead at halftime. Monmouth, led by senior guard— a preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention — chipped away at the deficit on multiple occasions. Vanderhoop made a pair of free throws with 56 seconds remaining to bring the Hawks within four, 55-51, but Rutgers held on for the win.
