The leader of New Zealand's main opposition party was ousted on Friday after opinion polls showed he was no match for the soaring popularity of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern as the country heads toward a general election.

Simon Bridges was replaced by Todd Muller in an emergency caucus meeting of his centre-right National Party following a week of disastrous poll results. Ardern’s popularity has shot higher in recent weeks with around 84% of New Zealanders approving of her government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Another poll showed Ardern had become New Zealand’s most popular prime minister in a century and her centre-left Labour Party led coalition would be handed a huge victory at the Sept. 19 election.

This all the good stock photos of the PM, Reuters picks that one?

I'm jealous of her People. She's brilliant. The woman has got it and she's proving it everyday. Incredible job containing coronavirus. Beautiful Country. PMArdernNZ

Ardern is a rockstar, and shows the rest of the world what real leadership looks like.

She should lead the world.

Overrated

New Zealand has been successful in containing the spread of the virus Latest updates | cases per million population👇 coronavirus COVIDー19

If only we had a pm like her , we had the chance but the country is full of poor racists with no class or education so we have a liar and a racist as pm instead .

They got good and smart PM 👍

Popularity in the media is soaring! Does not mean the people are happy with Comrade Jacinda. Your publication is complicit. If she wins next election there will be Yellow Vests raging. yellowvestsNZ

She is indeed a remarkable leader, why cannot right wing leaders of the nations just follow few steps of her to make humanity breathe a fresh

With a population the size of a US district it’s not hard is it.

Ardern is a UN stooge, and the media are the propaganda arm of the UN

I’m an Aussie but she feels like an Obama , universally loved, locally not so much. My understanding she has not come through on a few of her initial political promises. Affordable housing, inequality and climate promises.

Ardern has her thumb on her subjects.

She is appeasing people’ not fair!

Truly a great and honest leader. 🙏

Good. This is the strong female politician the world should be fawning over. Not fucking Hillary! Arden has made most other leaders look incompetent.

Now someone get her a hair stylist

I have such a huge crush on JA. 😍😍😍

Good for her!

She’s the best PM NZ has ever had

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern suggests 4-day workweek to recover from pandemicNew Zealand's prime minister floated the idea of a four-day workweek to promote domestic tourism as the industry -- and country -- looks to recover from the coronavirus pandemic. Hell to the Yes! Every day, the prime minister of NZ gives me more and more reason to just up and move there. So businesses lose a whole day of their employees working but have to pay the same amount. That sounds like a fucking dumb way to help businesses get better

Let's All Move to New ZealandI suppose it is a reflection of the low bar in my own country that I am this surprised that Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is “listening to experts,” “seeking data,” and “doing things to protect the nation,” but I continue to be floored by New Zealand’s exemplary handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Today on the cheering line: Ardern’s suggestion that employers in New Zealand consider offering flexible work plans, like four-day workweeks and more public holidays to help New Zealand’s economy cope with a post-pandemic world. Meanwhile, in America we get headlines like these. Please don't.
