New York legislators heard from coaches, league officials, scientists and former football players during a Tuesday hearing to consider a bill banning children under age 13 from playing organized tackle football.
All agreed that football involves blows to the head, and that sometimes such trauma eventually can lead to cognitive and behavioral disorders.
Liberal playbook: 1) Ban it 2) Make it free 3) Trump is a racist
This is for parents not the state to decide.
Umm, nobody is forcing parents to let their kids play football, right? So, is the legislature’s position that parents can’t be trusted to care about their kids as much as the NY State Legislature?
I hate to say this but playing football is likely more damaging to one’s health than smoking. The Brain should be more of a concern today than your Lungs tomorrow.
I’m a fan of blows to my head 😉
Let every family decide for themselves regarding whether their child plays or not. But, if their child is injured then there is no public subsidy for their healthcare. Every person makes choices - & they must live with their choices.
You know one change that would make middle & high school football even more unsafe? Making sure the kids playing it don’t learn proper form tackling until middle & high school. This bill is beyond stupid.
That is the safest time to play. I won’t let my kid play, but how about we let parents decide?
For their safety my son was hurt in practice by his own teammate at palo. Coach never took him to hospital called him a whimp
What part of the face does that face mask protect? Football can lead to blows to the head? Must have been a load of 'expert testimony.' Have any of these nerds ever played sandlot football? 'Organized' football simply means there are adults mixing in. Never a good thing.
Good people of New York: if you share our values and wish to escape, you will be welcome here in America.
Well, seeing as how not much in society has ever been improved by losing thousands of young players to life changing injuries for a few hours of fun on the weekends, I can see how this might seem counter-'Murican. There's tons of things kids can get into that aren't as harmful.
Tooo young - daddy’s are living through their boys, like mommy’s of ‘Jon Benets ‘
The solution is as simple as the letters N-C-A-A: 🏈💰🏈 PAY-FOR-PLAY!! 💰🏈💰
Flag football is more dangerous than regular football at that age. Soccer is just as bad
Next is bike riding. Which is far more dangerous. Then crossing the street without holding moms hand. Both are far more dangerous .
Any sport that could render a youngster a paraplegic or quadriplegic should not be endorsed or supported, imo.
Little kids playing tackle football is way safer for them than high school or college football. No speed, little contact other than lines pushing against each other.
How about flag football until 13yrs old.
Safest level of football is pre High School
How people that grow up in the 60s and 70s survive? No helmet in hockey games, and not much of protection in street football. Most probably more kids will die from cancer or similar from all the cars in NY city than football.
Football is fundamentally unsafe. Evidence is overwhelming. Highest serious knee, ankle, wrist, neck/shoulder injuries, broken/dislocated fingers.. The BIG stuff spinalcord injuries, CTE, concussions, early onset dementia, depression, etc. are there too.
YES!!!! Please...
Going to have to ban soccer too, girls are getting more concussions there than ever before
Want a safe sport ..? Teachem geometry (billiards) it helps they childern mathatically could be benificial
Doesn’t the State of NY have better thing to do than destroy Pip Warner football?
Football is for goons. Ban it altogether and have kids play field hockey
