New York governor says schools can reopen for in-person classes

Every region is well below our COVID infection limit, therefore all school districts are authorized to open.School districts are required to submit plans to NYS for review.Cuomo's directive leaves it up to local politicians and superintendents to decide whether and how to reopen.

New York, as of Friday, has reported 425,047 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 33,566 deaths. Most of the fatalities occurred during the spring when the pandemic was hitting the Northeast the hardest. While the number of new cases in New York has been trending downward of late, there has been an uptick in new infections in the surrounding states, according to theMeanwhile, the national death toll from COVID-19 climbed above 160,000 on Thursday and the U.S. was closing in on 5 million confirmed cases -- the most in the world. Most of the new cases have been in the Southern and in the Sun Belt states that began reopening just as the coronavirus was starting to crest.

Let's just sacrifice our kids for the models, see how many get sick, become carriers. Spread to older folks, bus drivers and staff get sick..sacrifice the all to see where the curve will start again! $crazy

Wow, did a pod-person take over Gov. Cuomo during the night? This must be the first time I actually like Gov. Cuomo more than Gov. Abbott. Schools need to open for students. In Houston, with millions of citizens, not one COVID death for anyone under 20.

If only every state was as effective in flattening the curve as NYC has been. It's not like we don't have a road map for how to do it it's just that we can't get everyone on board to follow the simplest easiest measures...wear a mask, social distance, etc.

I'm betting the teachers union has a lot to do with this. They realized that 1 teacher could teach 1 MILLION students on line and a lot of teachers would be made irrelevant.

Well that's a relief! I am SO happy for the kids! 🙂 Now let's hope that the kids will also get to participate in their after school activities, extra curricular activities, and even the interscholastic sports!
