In the Queens borough of New York City on Tuesday, people wearing face masks wait in line to enter a store that offers check-cashing services.New York City has drastically increased its estimate of the number of people killed by COVID-19 to include probable victims who were not tested. TheFor weeks, firefighters and paramedics have been recording a massive spike in deaths at home around New York City. The deceased were presumed to be victims of the coronavirus but were never tested.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has recently formed a working group with six other states that is focused on an eventual reopening of the economy. But all have agreed that the health care crisis must be under control first, which is likely to take months.

Ok so raise the probable cases by 2 million and this would be fair.

I will be interested in seeing if the death rates of other causes stayed at normal levels during this period. My guess is 'no'.

This is a start. These people deserve to be counted. Next they need to tally the thousands of people, like my husband, who were diagnosed without a test with the virus and told to stay at home, so we can get a true grasp of the extent of the problem. RIP.

Very tragic statistics, several times bigger number than 9/11 victims. The city should build a memorial to them.

Why not include the people who died in 2019 as well. Just report the facts.

They’re writing this as though the 10,000 deaths is the story, and not the very clear intent to deceive the public into a panic by presenting assumptions and death certificate manipulations as sound data. That’s unfortunate.
