New Year's Severe Weather Outbreak To Spawn Tornadoes, Wind Damage, Flooding Rain in the SouthAnother round of severe storms will erupt in parts of the South Friday night through Saturday.Heavy rain and local flash flooding are also threats.

A large-scale jet stream disturbance and its sweeping cold front will move from out of the Rockies toward the central and eastern states into a springlike, record-warm air mass for this time of year over the South. Here's a look at the potential severe weather impacts as well as where heavy rainfall could produce flooding. For details on the winter storm, see the link below.Rain and thunderstorms will increase Friday night from parts of the South into the Ohio and mid-Mississippi valleys.

These bands of thunderstorms will likely redevelop and track over the same areas Friday night. Therefore, the threat of flash flooding is significant in the area shaded below.There will likely be an expansive line of thunderstorms and heavy rain Saturday morning from parts of north Texas into Kentucky and Tennessee. Some of those storms Saturday morning may be severe with high winds, tornadoes and flooding rainfall.
