State officials are hoping to crackdown on illegal street racing, and reckless driving, with new legislation aimed at increasing penalties for those involved in these activities.

An innocent driver was killed Friday afternoon in West Hills when a car driven by a suspected street racer crashed into another car.

Statewide the number of citations has increased 300 percent since 2015, from 86 arrests and citations to 341 in 2020. "She was minding her own business. She was actually in a building, and he was racing about 80 miles, or so, an hour, and lost control over the vehicle, and plowed right into the building," said Levinson at a press conference in Woodland Hills."There were a number of other injuries, but again, she was the only fatality."

Separately, Los Angeles City Councilman Bob Blumenfield is also allocating $100,000 for specialized police enforcement against street racing and speeding, particularly in the San Fernando Valley.

The penalty should be automatic incarceration. No excuses.

Now you realize that. Punishment is suppose to be a deterrent to do the crime. For example if you get caught stealing you should lose a finger each time.

By making new laws that will only effect regular citizens that actually follow the laws...
