The sister of a federal security guard who allegedly was murdered by antigovernment extremists is seeking to hold Facebook’s parent company liable, in the latest effort to challenge the protections given to websites hosting user-generated content

A lawsuit filed Wednesday seeks to hold Facebook ’s parent company liable in the 2020 killing of a federal security guard, in the latest effort to challenge the protections given to websites hosting user-generated content.

In a complaint against Meta Platforms Inc., Angela Underwood Jacobs said the alleged murder of her brother, Dave Underwood, by antigovernment extremists was the result of a plot hatched on Facebook. Her brother was shot and killed by a man who had traveled to Oakland, Calif., with an intent to kill federal agents, according to federal prosecutors.

Facebook sued over death of federal officerThe sister of a federal officer allegedly shot and killed by a member of a domestic extremist movement is suing Facebook, charging that the platform’s recommendation system played a part in the radicalization of those accused of carrying out the shooting. They recognize that they need to do more but are not doing more. They could install legions of content moderators with all the money Facebook or Meta gains from their „asocial network“. That would create many jobs and would make the world a safer place simultaneously.
