The suit is one of several expected in the aftermath of the Ethiopian Airlines crash.

By Lori Aratani Lori Aratani Reporter focusing on transportation issues, including airports, airlines, and the nation's railroad and subway systems Email Bio Follow April 8 at 6:41 PM Citing “corporate greed” and “serious misconduct,” the family of an American man who died when an Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed last month filed a lawsuit Monday against Boeing, the manufacturer of the 737 Max aircraft.

“In my decades of representing families of the victims of air crashes, I have never seen a case with such serious misconduct by an aircraft manufacturer,” said Floyd Wisner, one of several Houston-based attorneys representing the family. “As the investigation continues, Boeing is cooperating fully with the investigating authorities,” the company said in a statement.

On Thursday, Boeing Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg acknowledged that MCAS, short for Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, was a factor in both crashes.“The history of our industry shows most accidents are caused by a chain of events,” Muilenburg said. “This again is the case here, and we know we can break one of those chain links in these two accidents. As pilots have told us, erroneous activation of the MCAS function can add to what is already a high workload environment.

And the FAA all but let BOEING sign their own certificates of compliance.

The era of realDonaldTrump

It was a poorly designed aircraft. They stretched the 737 to the point the crap couldn’t fly without the nose mysteriously going up so instead of correcting that they made a program to compensate. So the program failed to correct a failed aircraft design. People better go to jail

That’s a clear result of GOP doctrine of smaller unfunded government that can be drowned in a bathtub and allowing the free markets to do everything because we all know how much better that is.

Well what a surprise! Isnt that the American way?

loriara Ha! Not news. That is just everyday corporate behavior. Expected.

They problem is not the profit, it is the lack of safety

Profits over people ? This is nothing new for corporate America. The very definition is the pathological pursuit of profit no matter who or what gets hurt. This is the winner take all free market that we idolize until it affects us

Say it isn't so! A publicly traded corporation bowing to the wealth of the stockholders, putting profit, dividends and increased stock value over the lives and safety of humans. This COULD never ever happen in America.Must be 'fake news'.

But who gave the final approval?

Will try to avoid flying on Boeing 737s as long as possible when they are back in the air. Going to take a long time for a US company to regain my trust!

Ya think? Colour me surprised!

Not good!!!

and we are just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SURPRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZED!!!! and who enabled, and co-conspired with this soulless evil

Of course they did! Corporations act like sociopaths. You know, just like the President. They only care about enriching themselves.

For their next act, Boeing will resurrect the dead...good luck..

Is there a Trump on the Boeing Board? Sounds like a bunch of stony hearts.

Regrets? Doubtful.

That’s what happen when you use fast-food business model in aviation.

1st time that has ever happened

I pray that the families of the dead are awarded Billions of dollars...and may Boeing go completely under.

I get profits. But profits over people’s safety should never be allowed. Boeing needs to pay the price.

All signs point to this.

Our system encourages and almost requires that profit be put before people.

Seriously, what kind of ghoul puts 'optional' safety features in a fucking passenger jet?

This is Boeing’s Pinto. Over 300 people’s blood on their hands.

All of capitalism does that

I agree with that!

surprised no one has sued FAA for not acting in 2018 when this was first reported...

they are a corporation, so yeah.

Between Two Deadly Crashes, Boeing Moved Haltingly to Make 737 MAX FixesRecent congressional testimony, as well as interviews with executives, regulators and others suggest the American aviation industry had an overly U.S.-centric view about how to handle safety issues, and often a dismissive view of overseas pilots. The speed of Boeing’s response is now a matter of various investigations. The important question is not “when will it be ready” but “who will test and certify it?” In the meantime they had no issue putting the lives of thousands of people at risk. Every person who flew in their aircraft should be compensated as test pilots at a preliminary testing stage. But yet they wanted to keep the plane flying in the US after the latest crash?
