in Akihabara, Tokyo , the exhibition starts to today and will run for the next few months. There will be a variety of events during that period as well, and entry is pretty much free .. This was a super robot series by Go Nagai that featured the titular mecha that fired its fists as “rocket punches”.
The toys that followed a few years later used a lot of diecast metal and also had spring loaded fists. While the latter were lost under furniture across Japan, the usage of diecast metal in the their construction became something of a hallmark for mecha merchandising. The exhibition does a good job of showing that chronology and also how these diecast toys have massively improved over the years.. This is a transforming mecha in the shape of the classic chogokin logo.
As I went to the exhibition yesterday, I took a bunch of pictures so you can check out the various mecha toys for yourself with a link to the gallery below. For me, as someone that both collects and reviews chogokin toys, it’s amazing to see how far they have come since their dinky inception five decades ago.Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
