Germany's first democracy, the Weimar Republic of 1919-1933, has long been regarded as a lesson in political failure. Lately, it has also been held up as a cautionary tale for the present.

In this Wednesday, April 3, 2019 photo, historic posters displayed at the exhibition 'Weimar: The Essence And Value Of Democracy' at the German Historical Museum in Berlin, Germany. The exhibition explores the Weimar Republic of 1919-1933, which has become synonymous with political and social turmoil and will run until Sept. 22, 2019. The posters reads: ' Never may the national fortune fall to the prince.' and 'This referendum is theft stay at home.

Among the 250 items on display at the German Historical Museum in Berlin are campaign posters highlighting the political debates of the era, from the fight for secular education to a debate over the expropriation of Germany's aristocracy. Radio recordings by prominent figures, including the physicist Albert Einstein, reveal the buzz surrounding this new medium and the way it sped up the news cycle — for better and for worse.

Like "Babylon Berlin," a crime series set in the cabaret halls and back alleys of interwar Berlin, the Weimar exhibition hints at dark times to come. There are the military firearms finding their way onto the streets and fueling political strife that would results in hundreds of political assassinations.

For us, on the side of good, it is a cautionary tale. For others, it seems, a playbook.

Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to our Democracy! Please take his presence seriously and VOTE HIM OUT!!

Not one person under the age of 50 knows WTF you are talking about. Unfortunately.

Babylon Berlin is awesome!

Not to sound melodramatic, but I really hope we never get to experience the same fate Germany endured after the Weimar Republic.

Truer words we're never spoken... Too bad about 80% of the people that read this won't have a Fucking clue... Exactly what Hitler and a guy named Trump would hope for...

Also: don't punish countries after wars

Nazism never died. It just relocated to America....Leave the Jews alone. Love everyone.

Oh just their 1919-1933 years of democracy? What about their years of socialism from 1933-1945?

I Really Agree with this observation. It's not about being overly critical of an person, society or nation...whenever reasonable people reflect upon human history. Humans are rather similar in behavior. Therefore it's possible to Actually Learn from what others have done / do.

Brilliant, I've been making this comparison for 2 yrs bc I doubt if Trump will 'retire' if he loses the next election. He's so drunk w/ power (both real & imagined)and a support system which denies his crimes, I think he'll need to be in Federal Prison to NOT threaten democracy!

‘Zero tolerance’ a year later: How the US family separations crisis eruptedIt’s been a year since a memo began the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy. Here’s a look at the key developments in the family separations crisis All that policy has done is dramatically back-up the court system and made everything 100x worse. “We have nothing new folks, Russia blew up in our faces after we dedicated all that coverage pushing a lie. Here is some regurgitated shit to shove in your face so we can continue to fuel that hate.” This is CNN. Family separations have existed since the Flores appeal of 2014. Family style detention was made illegal during the Obama admin. Obama practiced catch and release more often then not and handed thousands of children to human traffickers. Under Trump everyone is being vetted.
