The beach passes originally were required only on weekends and holidays until June 27.The city manager will have the authority to close the beach at any time if needed.
City officials say unpermitted gatherings of over 100 people are illegal and event organizers will be charged.Ally Salerno, of Long Beach, said, “I’m glad that they're taking measures to make sure that the community’s safer and people are safer." John Behr, of Long Beach, said, “Being able to come to the beach after work, have dinner and hang out is something I look forward to all day, so the closing after dusk is something that will impact me."“There has got to be a better solution,” wrote one poster.
“I can't go for a nighttime walk on the beach now? That’s the answer? Why are the residents being punished?” wrote another.
