Antioch will announce its pick to replace outgoing Acting City Manager Forrest Ebbs following a special meeting on Friday.will begin at 10 a.m. with a closed-door session followed by a special meeting at 10:30 a.m. to discuss items that council members have not gotten to due to packed agendas and long meetings.
Ebbs announced in an email last week that he has accepted a position as one of two Modesto deputy city managers. Ebbs worked for the city of Antioch for more than eight years as community development director, and most recently as acting city manager, a title he held since March 17. He was tapped to fill in after City Manager Cornelius Johnson was placed on leave for reasons that are still unclear.
The interim city manager confirmed that his official last day will be July 14. But because of previously scheduled vacations, his last day at work will be this Friday. Earlier this week, Mayor Lamar Thorpe said while he supported a national search for a new city manager, “we can’t do anything until the position is vacant.”
