Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The live-action One Piece has done a decent job of sticking to the major plot beats of the anime and manga, but the Netflix series must change one bit of canon to bring back a hugely popular character in season 2. One Piece season 1 introduces Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, as well as several supporting players and antagonists who appear in Eiichiro Oda's source material. Some characters, like Monkey D.
Given how popular Mihawk is in both the One Piece anime and the live-action show, it seems inevitable that he'll make a comeback. After all, the pirate vows to face Roronoa Zoro again after he wins their season 1 fight. However, Mihawk and Zoro's rematch has yet to happen in Oda's source material. And if the Netflix show follows the One Piece anime and manga, Ward's character may not even show up in the second season.
Mihawk may not appear in the next outing, as the pirate doesn't return until the following part of Oda's story: the Sky Island Saga.
