That cultural shift has meant, “purpose-led, mission-led leadership, corporate leadership, has become so much more important during the pandemic,” she explained. “People have felt so much sort of base disruption in every aspect of their lives. And we've seen a lot of companies really needing to and wanting to authentically focus on how do you care for people, and that means you've got to be purpose-led and mission-led.
But they are still only looking at the C-suite. Though they now come from a wider range of C-level roles, 56% still had CEO experience. “Now you're seeing more people elevated to the role, as you see in our report, who've been heads of strategy or a chief technology officer, different roles that bring a new lens and an element of diversity,” Gwin said. The report said 19% came from “other C-Suite experience,” but left it undefined.
