Sasse began his speech congratulating “parents, teachers and coaches” before stating how, because of the pandemic, there was no longer a difference between the titles. “If you’re a parent, you’re a teacher; thanks a lot, China,” he ends, immediately setting the tone for the rest of his time on camera.
Sasse continued blaming China for the pandemic through the remainder of his speech, stating in another anecdote how the class of 2020 will be reminiscing about their unique graduation at their high school reunion decades from now.

China is not a race. China is a communist totalitarian country that silenced its researchers and manipulated the WHO in such a way that the world was helpless against Covid-19. China is partially to blame for the fact that these kids had a virtual graduation in the first place.
It is because of China’s inaction that these poor seniors had a screwed up year and graduation. That’s not the senator’s fault and that’s not a racist comment. So ridiculous.
Couldn’t agree more. These kids have gone through so much and now to have this speech to look back on for their HS commencement. BS Sasse could have done more for these kids. At the very least, clean yourself up and show some respect for your alma mater.
Why do people think “race” when you hear the word China? It’s a country. It’s not racist to talk about a country. Don’t confuse “Chinese” with “Asian”.
As a graduate of Fremont High School, I couldn't agree more. BenSasse is a pathetic excuse of a human and a disgrace to my hometown.
