A Nebraska mother and teenage daughter are facing criminal charges after the teen allegedly got an illegal abortion and police say the two buried the fetus.

Norfolk police opened an investigation into then 17-year-old Celeste Burgess on April 26, investigating concerns she had given birth prematurely to a stillborn child, according to an affidavit submitted by the Norfolk Police Investigations Unit that was obtained by ABC News.DPA/Picture Alliance via Getty Images

Jessica Burgess, 41, is facing five charges of felony burying and reburying the fetus unlawfully, inducing an abortion and performing an abortion without being a licensed physician and misdemeanor concealing the death of another person and lying to police, court records show. She pleaded not guilty to the charges, court records show.

The two voluntarily took police to the scene on April 29 and showed McBride where the body was buried. According to Tanner Barnhill, who helped the two bury the body, the mother and daughter attempted to burn the body of the fetus before it was buried, the affidavit said.

At 28 weeks (7 months of development) ABC. That's not even protected under R vs W. Then they burned and buried the baby.

☹️ this suppression of women and our snatching up our freedoms is horrible.

a state law on the books since 2010 bans abortions in Nebraska at 20 weeks.

Abortion is one of the basic human rights, forced birth is worse than forced labor, having children must be voluntary, my body my choice.

Investigators uncovered Facebook messages in which the two allegedly discussed using medication to induce an abortion. Republicans are fine with police intrusion into private companies and using the power of the state to control women. But, when pursuing a criminal offense against a renegade former politician it’s “hands off, show respect”. VoteThemAllOut Good. Lock them up. They are murderers. I'm not a proponent of abortions at 20 weeks. The baby plays and moves. Has a personality. Has their organs. It's no longer a fetus, a “thing”. A lot of babies have been able to live outside of the womb at 23 weeks/6 months (about 55%). Good

Nebraska woman charged with helping daughter have abortionA Nebraska woman has been charged with helping her teenage daughter end her pregnancy at about 24 weeks after investigators uncovered Facebook messages in which the two discussed using medication to induce an abortion and plans to burn the fetus afterward. The prosecutor handling the case said it's the first time he has charged anyone for illegally performing an abortion after 20 weeks, a restriction that was passed in 2010. Before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, states weren’t allowed to enforce abortion bans until the point at which a fetus is considered viable outside the womb, at roughly 24 weeks. Good for them - that’s what decent people have to do now when anti-women, anti-women’s health care zealots meddle in other people’s business.
