New industry data provide the first hard look at how many Americans are struggling to make rent during the coronavirus pandemic

Nearly a third of U.S. apartment renters didn’t pay any of their April rent during the first week of the month, according to new data to be released Wednesday by the National Multifamily Housing Council and a consortium of real-estate data providers.

The numbers are the first hard look at how many Americans are struggling to make rent during the coronavirus pandemic. The data come in the first of weekly reports on unpaid rent from NMHC, a landlord trade group.

Well, those landlords didn't get paid for april, So i hope their bill collectors will be as generous.

Who would have thought placing the whole population under house arrest with no income would lead to an inability to pay rent? Crazy

Freeze the rent only on those who can prove they’re unemployed, furloughed and got more than 50% pay-cut due to covid19. 🤷‍♀️

How many of those people have the latest iPhone and AirPods? How much time do they spend on social media instead of building up their skill set? We need basic personal finance classes in every high school and remove predatory credit card companies from college campuses.

Oh dear God keep Americans safe and housed please unemployment phone numbers are not answering and busy signals and web sights keep sending people back to the busy signal. Very scary.

Let's make it 100% in May.

How many because they couldn't and how many just didn't want to Good luck figuring that out...

Freezes the rent.

do they get a bailout?

It's world wide!

Lawsuits on the way.
