'One consideration could be working with our NATO allies who served with us in Afghanistan,' Senator Angus King told Newsweek. 'It seems to me logical that they would be involved in helping us to solve the problem that they may have.'

Therefore, he felt the rest of the alliance had a responsibility to help them as they too pulled out of Afghanistan. For example, France has 13 overseas territories, five of which are considered departments that are wholly subject to French law, and the United Kingdom has 14 overseas territories across the globe. Denmark and the Netherlands also retain some degree of governance over several overseas outposts.
