The organization will celebrate its decades of service to the community at Balboa Park on Mother’s Day weekend

San Diego American Indian Health Center is celebrating 45 years of serving the community through medical, dental and mental health care during its annual powwow on Mother's Day weekend. Founded in 1979, SDAIHC promotes excellence in health care for people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, aiming to reduce health disparities in the county’s underserved populations.

'Right now, we're so starved for space, so when we get into that new building, we're going to be able to do even more,' LaChapelle said. 'We will have much more technology. Instead of sending some people to specialists, we can just do it right here.' Construction is expected to break ground on the $35 million project later this year, and once completed, the second phase will be the construction of an affordable senior housing building next door.
