Last month, Yellowstone National Park saw the most visitors it has ever recorded for the month of May, the park says. After more than a year of pandemic-related restrictions and limited travel, US national parks are seeing surging attendance figures.

That's roughly an 11% increase from May 2019, the park said. Last year, the national park was closed for more than half of May, and reopened only two of its five entrances for the rest of the month.

"Camping in the park increased 93% in May 2021 compared to May 2019, while backcountry camping increased 117%. Trail use in the park increased 70% in May, compared to May 2019, on trails that use is counted," the park said in a news release. Grand Teton National Park officials said July and August have historically been the busiest months of the year, although the spring and fall seasons have also recently seen an uptick.

This is for the park officials. If they show up at a national park with a picnic basket, don't let them in. Two birds, one stone.

We are relaxing too early and making a mistake with the Delta variance floating around and people not being careful about mask wearing. I'm afraid is going to cause certain states to have to shut down. I don't think this is being handled well

We just got back from a national park tour in several states. I knew going it would be crowded & planned for it. So we got to Arches later in the late morning. Got right in. It was all so beautiful! Yellowstone, Arches, Grand Tetons. Only waits we had were for the gift shops.
