between Democratic Ohio Rep. Emilia Sykes of Akron and Republican attorney Madison Gesiotto Gilbert of North Canton has drawn the most outside spending of any U.S. House of Representatives race in Ohio.
The organization’s tally indicates that outside groups have spent nearly $10 million so far in an effort to win over voters in the reconfigured district that includes all of Summit County, a sliver of Portage County, and northern Stark County. Out of the 425 seats in Congress, the race for the 13th congressional district has had the 21st highest amount of outside spending.
The amount spent by outside groups in the 13th district has dwarfed the amount spent by the candidates themselves. Sykesby the end of September, while Gesiotto Gilbert had spent $968,433, Federal Election Commission reports show. Gesiotto Gilbert ended the quarter with $672,099 in the bank, while Sykes had $490,400.
Here are the groups that have spent more than $1 million on the race and what they hope to accomplish:A political action committee called the Congressional Leadership Fund that’s dedicated to electing Republicans to the U.S. House of Representatives and is linked to House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of California has spent the most money in the race so far: almost $3.7 million.
