NASA is launching a telescope and a balloon the size of a football stadium into the stratosphere so researchers can study the formation of stars.
The telescope, according to NASA, will make 3D maps of the density, speed and motion of gas in these regions to study a phenomenon known as stellar feedback — which, according to NASA's JPL scientist Jorge Pineda, is “the main regulator of star formation throughout the universe’s history.” The risks, per JPL, include unforeseen technical challenges due to the nature of sending a balloon into space – which may affect the mission's results. NASA sends 10 to 15 balloons every year, but none ever carrying a telescope this size.
There you go that'll teach them
Sounds like a huge carbon footprint
Yes, bc I need to know how stars are formed, nevermind I have to go to a entirely different part of the world to see the sky filled with them but at least I'll know how they are formed. ty NASA
Wow a giant condom in the sky -
Money that could be better spent developing vaccines.
Totally not us dude.
What if it comes down in the middle of a busy highway or on an airplane?
Who cares? Unless it can kill the virus or vaporize Trump and all his other fascists, I don’t give a damn.
Football stadium? No. Try football F I E L D!!! Apparently FakeNews journos never took math in grade school.
NASA_Marshall The 👽’s up there are probably like, Are they still at the balloon stage 🤦🏻♂️😂😂. But in all seriousness, I hope we find what we’re looking for.
Isn’t that just a “waste in space?”
Seems kind of racist.
