A bereaved family member prays for the victims of U.S. atomic bombing at the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Park in Nagasaki, southern Japan, Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020. Nagasaki marked the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombing on Sunday.
TOKYO — The Japanese city of Nagasaki on Sunday marked its 75th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing, with the mayor and dwindling survivors urging world leaders including their own to do more for a nuclear weapons ban. At 11:02 a.m., the moment the B-29 bomber Bockscar dropped a 4.5-ton plutonium bomb dubbed “Fat Man,” Nagasaki survivors and other participants stood in a minute of silence to honor more than 70,000 dead.
The Aug. 9, 1945, bombing came three days after the United States dropped its first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, the world’s first ever nuclear attack that killed 140,000. On Aug. 15, Japan surrendered, ending World War II.Many survivors developed cancer or other illnesses due to their exposure to radiation and suffered discrimination.Nagasaki Mayor Tomihisa Taue read a peace declaration in which he raised concern about a growing global opinion supportive of nuclear deterrence.
Japan has not signed the treaty, saying it seeks a role to bridge gaps between nuclear and non-nuclear states so they have a common ground for dialogue.
Including those Japanese men and women, young and old, who didn't commit any killings or murder during the war. Their only sin is - they are Japanese people living under Japan's militaristic state of governance.
All good souls lost may they rest in peace
It's amazing how people can sit there and rationalize murdering innocent men women and children but in the same breath pretend to live up to some higher ideals. People are warped.
Hopefully japan learned its lesson to not poke a sleeping bear
💔🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️♾
We didn't have smart bombs or strategic missiles ww2 , so here is my questionwhat would of caused more damage atom bombs or the carpet bombing campaign that was common at the time?
Nagasaki and Hiroshima was elected for the atomic bomb because they were the two christian cities of Japan? Understand? In the Day of Trasfiguration of the Lord Jesus. Dont these images remember anything to you? religion
This was a war crime, why didn't the US get punishment?

“BREAKING!” ❓❓
The only history msm is willing to discuss is the history that that gives the US a bad name.
super funny lol the modern people who weren’t even born at that time talk like they just saw it and blame each other lol
How is this BREAKING?
😢❤️
Just as in the Civil War, when the last survivors die. There is a resurgence of the idea. As if collective memory impacted future events.
Indeed, let’s just use fertilizer and grow food for all.
And by doing so, saved 500,000 American lives.
You notice they haven't attacked Pearl Harbor since we did that. Broke them from the habit.
Yes, the Atomic Bomb killed thousands. However, thousands of Japanese were committing suicide during World War II, believing Americans were going to kill them. The Atomic Bombs were bad, but had the roles been reversed, would Japan have dropped the Atomic Bombs on Americans? Yes.
I saw a movie about this when I was a teenager, it traumatized me for years. We should never ever use them.
They deserved it.
Japan is now a great ally and democracy. The people I have met from Japan are exceptional and friendly. Imperial Japan that attacked Pearl Harbor, different story, different time, and awoke a sleeping giant.
There is absolutely no excuses or justification. None!
Let us NOT forget the genocide, mass rape, torture, murder, extortions, arsons, looting and war crimes committed by Japan. And it's suicidal military.
How is it “breaking” (news) to announce an anniversary commemorated yearly of something that happened 75 years ago? 🤨 journalism
Tehran, Moscow, Beijing and Pyongyang should already be on notice. LMAO
Himat75 Huge huge loss of life but just for a comparison. Do you realise Covid-19 has killed much more Americans but doesn't shock people
Should also ban surprise attacks killing over 3000 people. Kiss off.
Ap tell them I said eat shit please
If it wasnt for government we would have world peace
It really sucks that they targeted civilians, it wasn’t the only option to end the war, but it was the quickest and most efficient. I hope to God, this will happen never again.
🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
DavePitt It was absolutely horrific. I've read about the experiences of people who survived the bomb. It's worse than you can imagine. Just horrific. Nuclear weapons should be banned permanently.
In 1968 I visited the site called 'Peace Park' directly below the impact point & the Bomb 'museum' above Nagasaki. Occasionally I'll hear the phrase, 'Nuke 'Um' and know that people that think that way have no idea about what they say...
To think more have died here from Covid19. 😢
Damn. Sad history
Republicans will tell you that 70,000 people die all the time
The Japanese military was brutal with this needed to happen to save many more live including Japanese lives
We are still the only country to use nuclear weapons and we did so on a civilian population. Truman used the bullshit reason it would shorten the war, but it was really to scare the Russians and China. We are a barbaric country with a racist past. Deal with it.
😢💔
A reminder we firebombed Tokyo prior and killed over 100,000 civilians. All civilian causalities of war are unfortunate.
Maybe they shouldn’t have bombed the US
You know you did a good job kicking ass when they are still whining 75 years later. Lesson dont start a war you cant win.
If the Japanese hadn’t been so treacherous and cruel the bombs might never have been used.
In war, countries will kill many more on the opposing side to save a few on their side. Which makes sense
My heart breaks💔 never again.
It was their own fault. I have no sympathy for the Japs!
CNN ABC NYTIMES WASHINGTONPOST MSNBC CBSNEWS FOXNEWS BBCWorld Reuters God and the World saw the horrors we all suffered as a result of wars! Just look at what's happening. The losses with the pandemic. I will always pray we don't see anymore. God be with us all🙏
🙏🙏🙏
Chinese virus is still the deadliest weapon.
Civilians
Use more nukes.
Dwindling survivors at 75 year anniversary? I mean it was 75 years ago. I’d expect some people have died by now. You know...old age?
Play stupid games win stupid prizes
At least remember the dead in such a devastating situation that happened 75 years ago May God Bless Them
Fuck around see what happens...
Our WW11 survivors are dwindling too
Not particularly feel sorry for those 'survivors'. Japan started the war and committed many war crimes against humanity. Bombing was justified. Also, Japan of being engaged in military disputes with neighboring victims of WW2 means that Japan hasn't learned from the past.
That bombing, along w/ Hiroshima, saved not only 500k AMERICAN lives, but 70k Japanese civilians woulda died had Operation Downfall, the invasion of Japan mainland, the alternative to nuking, occurred. We also staved off USSR invasion, saving Japan from communism.
And ended WWII
*SHARING...
Wth are you breaking?
How is this breaking news?
Sorry.. not sorry?
