Linden High School Sit-in for UkraineSolomiya Malanyuk reaches for her phone first thing in the morning. She’s not scrolling through Instagram like a typical teenager might be. Instead, she’s nervously checking in on her family living in Ukraine under the siege of war.
Motivated to do something more, she and a group of fellow Ukrainian-American students organized a demonstration in support of peace for Ukraine at their high school Friday afternoon. At 2:23 p.m., symbolizing the date of Feb. 23 when Russia invaded its neighbor, students left their classrooms and stood or sat silently in the hallways. Ukrainians are so loyal to their country. I’m guessing whatever happens over there Putin will never have them on his side.
Are any of the students doing a walk out for the Black and other POC students/tourists that were denied entry across the border and were told they would have to fight for Ukraine?
