New Jersey will get an additional $834.5 million from a 'historic' $20 billion allocation to fund transit across the nation.

, calling it the “largest ever” which provides 58% more funding than in past years.

He gave specific examples of that need based on conversations he had with people during trips he took across the nation, including one toButtigieg recalled talking to “a mother in New Jersey during a recent trip who made a comment that went right to my heart when she described, in moving terms, how the long commute that she faced without frequent reliable transit between where she lives and where she works, meant she was not the parent she wanted to be.

Specific projects to be funded weren’t mentioned in the press conference. FTA officials said funding for many FTA programs is provided directly to the states. “In Gateway, we see many things that rise to the level of a mega project,” Buttigieg said. “We are very focused on this issue of project delivery and efficiency, mega projects had a tendency to run over budget. We have to take every step to make sure every project is on time and on budget.”
