Thirty-eight people were killed in Myanmar as the military quelled protests in several towns and cities, the United Nations said, the most violent day since demonstrations against last month's military coup first broke out

- Police in Myanmar broke up demonstrations in several places with tear gas and gunfire on Thursday but there was no immediate word on casualties a day after the United Nations said 38 people had been killed in the bloodiest day since last month’s coup.

Police later opened fire and used tear gas to break up protests in Yangon and the central town of Monywa, witnesses said. Police also fired in the town of Pathein, to the west of Yangon, media reported.Big crowds also gathered peacefully for rallies elsewhere, including the second city of Mandalay and in the historic temple town of Bagan, where hundreds marched carrying pictures of Suu Kyi and a banner saying: “Free our leader”, witnesses said.

Schraner Burgener said she warned Myanmar deputy military chief Soe Win that the military was likely to face strong measures from some countries and isolation in retaliation for the coup. U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price said the United States was “appalled” by the violence and was evaluating how to respond.

Images of a 19-year-old woman, one of two shot dead in Mandalay, showed her wearing a T-shirt that read “Everything will be OK”.

I pity Myanmar and her hapless citizens. And I have a strong fear that Nigeria may soon degenerate to this level. God help Nigeria.

Does the army plan to rule by force, putting down a running rebellion by force? Is there No international tool to help the people when a govt brutalizes it's population like this? Where are Myanmar's neighbours?

Why was Trump banned?

UN- there is no humanity, there is no equality in the world today, Myanmar as the military quelled protests but what they do before they kill dozens of Muslims in Rakhine ooh sorry .........

Unarmed people are being killed in Myanmar every day while waiting for R2P and No-Fly zones. The world just watch and talk but takes very little hard action against the Junta. Economic Sanctions are NOT enough.

We have lost many lives of valuable youths and others, male and female. We don't want to loose more. We cannot suffer anymore. MILITARY MASSACRE WhatsHappeningInMyanmar Mar4Coup

Truly shocking..

Running out of patience. What happened in *Myanmar? Just one month, over 50 citizens were killed. Even snipers appeared toward protesters. Rememebrance of the dead.ㅠㅠ The UN should do a strong role! UN Peacekeepers should be dispached. The Korean army will do it - 'the best'.
