BDD currently affects 2 to 3% of the population, making it more common than anorexia nervosa or obsessive compulsive disorder , Phillips said. The disorder is typically treated with serotonin reuptake inhibitors and cognitive behavioral therapy, a mental health treatment that teaches skills and focuses on changing problematic thoughts and behaviors.
