How do you set up an even loose framework for budgeting when the whole thing is overwhelming? Every time I’ve tried to start I just get bogged down and too many things don’t fit in the categories correctly or fit in more than one that I give up. Or I just panic seeing the amount of money that’s going toward what . I feel like I should be doing more but I can’t without freaking myself out. How does one budget?The first thing to do is push back against that panic.
The next step is to determine what your “main things” are. It might be rent/mortgage, health care, vacations, etc. I have no idea what yours are, but I know that you have them, because we all do. These are the parts of your life that you’ll put a sizable chunk of your money and resources into no matter what happens. Budgeting for your main things first is essential because you know you’ll have the requisite amount of funds each month to address them.
