The surviving driver — David Alvarado, 54, of Madera — was allegedly drunk when he rear-ended a car that was stopped at a red light on Saturday, May 18, the California Highway Patrol said.
In filing murder charges, the Fresno County district attorney cited Alvarado’s six previous convictions for driving under the influence — in 1997, 2005, 2006, twice in 2019, and 2021. Alvarado pleaded not guilty on Wednesday. His bail was set at $2.7 million, and his next court date is in June.
