As this first system pushes farther east, a few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Monday from the Central and Southern Appalachians to the Carolinas and mid-Atlantic. Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat from these storms, but a couple of tornadoes cannot be ruled out. There will also be a threat of locally heavy rain that could trigger flooding in the Midwest through early Monday.
Flood watches have been issued by the National Weather Service from southeast Iowa and far northeast Missouri into northern Illinois, northern Indiana and northwest Ohio. The second round of severe thunderstorms is expected to arrive in the Plains Tuesday afternoon and evening. For now, NOAA's Storm Prediction Center forecasts an area from southern Nebraska into Kansas, Oklahoma and west-central Texas is most likely to see severe thunderstorms Tuesday and Tuesday night. Damaging winds, large hail and some tornadoes are possible with this round of severe weather. The severe threat from this storm system may last into Wednesday in parts of the Southeast and northern Gulf Coast.
This will be fun but it is dangerous to be outside right now.
