El guitarrista legendario Dickey Betts, cofundador de Allman Brothers Band y autor de su mayor éxito, “Ramblin’ Man”, falleció a los 80 años. El miembro del Salón de la Fama del Rock & Roll murió en su casa en Osprey, Florida, confirmó David Spero, mánager de Betts por 20 años. Betts había luchado contra el cáncer por más de un año y tenía una enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica, dijo Spero.

Fundada en 1969, los Allman fueron una banda pionera de improvisación, pisoteando la noción tradicional de canciones pop de tres minutos al realizar largas composiciones en concierto y en disco. La banda también se destacó como un grupo birracial del sur profundo. Duane Allman murió en un accidente de motocicleta en 1971, y el miembro fundador Berry Oakley murió en otro accidente de motocicleta un año después.
