Researchers found that increased stressors like economic hardship and systemic racism play a significant role for Black children and can lead to the development of mental health issues as they age, the study said.

The stressors contribute to Black children having less gray matter in their brains, a byproduct of absorbing "toxic stress." The study defines the stressors as "prolonged exposure to adverse experiences" that lead to excessive stress hormones and "disrupt the immune and metabolic regulatory systems."

Nathaniel Harnett, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School who led the study, told CNN their analysis sought to examine how early the effects of structural inequities and racism would appear in brain development. Harnett said his team began exploring a cognitive development study to dispel "this kind of folk belief that Black and White people have categorically different brains.

Researchers said Black children are much more likely to be exposed to violence, live in disadvantaged neighborhoods, and combat systemic racism daily than White children. They also are exposed to those factors at an earlier age, the study said.

Bull

The problem is the systemic black culture that over decades has perpetrated everyone else , other than themselves are the problem.

🥱🥱🥱🥱

Maybe if the 'Media' stopped telling Black people they are disadvantaged and maybe if the Government would stop as well we wouldn't be in this situation.

Let's blame white people for everything! Seems not to be an issue in the Asian community. They figured it out. Two parents alone bring people out of poverty. 70% of black families are 1 parent home. Let's be honest, whitey ain't ur problem.

Biggest contributing factor to poverty is growing up in a single parent household. Brain development has to do with the parents, Dumb parents = dumb child most of the time. Root cause would be not keeping legs closed.

Did we need researching for this 🥲

What they never mention, is that our European ancestors were what we can rightly call under-privileged and lacked opportunity, however they got on with life and made the best of what they had to create a better future for themselves and their families. What they never mention however, is the demographic change of the country, the cultural shift and and the collapse of society in terms of the family, our morality and our values as a civilization. They will say that it is poverty, they will say it is a lack of opportunity for the 'youth,' they will say that it is because of austerity and police cuts, they will even blame 'oppression and racism.'
