In our current 24/7, “always on” business culture, many are giving up on the idea of achieving any kind of harmony between their work and personal lives. The solution? Don’t worry about balance—just try to “integrate” the two.

One method that she found particularly effective was driving her kids to school every day. “That way, we had at least 20 minutes just for us,” she says.

—often find it difficult to achieve work-life equilibrium. But, unlike Keane, many of these working people are wracked with guilt for failing to achieve complete harmony. Establishing your own personal definition of what balance means is the first step toward making it a reality, says Jae Ellard, author of the 2014 book. And even though the original work-life balance idea has since morphed into discussions of like work-life integration or work-life harmony, her advice remains relevant.

How about no? I know capitalism wants us serfs to work 24/7, but big nope. Employees deserve a full life away from work and time not on the clock. Workers need to unite and push back on this BS, or you can bet they'll normalize it in no time flat (and pay less too, if they can).

That's really disheartening. I think you should publish my counter-piece to this, an op-ed about how work schedules should match school schedules (including spring and winter break). It would improve our economy immensely.
