'It makes it really hard to look for recovery when you have to pass your drug dealer on the way to that table, or if you have to pass people openly using drugs,' said Michelle Leopold, one of the protesters against the center. Leopold lost her 18-year-old son to an opioid overdose in 2019 while he was a college student.

SAN FRANCISCO -- In the heart of San Francisco, a new center to provide resources to people struggling with drug addiction has heightened the debate over how to deal with the drug crisis.. They say the site may only be making the crisis worse.

"There is drug dealing going on in what is supposed to be a safe place, and there's open drug use in the Linkage Center," Michelle Leopold, one of the protesters, told ABC7 News."And that is what we're protesting." Leopold is part of the group"Moms Against Drug Deaths." She lost her 18-year-old son Trevor to an opioid overdose in 2019 while he was a student at Sonoma State.

Leopold, along with a handful of other moms impacted by drug addictions, decided to speak out against the Linkage Center after seeing photos showing open drug use inside the site. "A safe injection site cannot be inside a Linkage Center. They need to be two different topics," Leopold said."This is supposed to be a safe place to get help...but it makes it really hard to look for recovery when you have to pass your drug dealer on the way to that table, or if you have to pass people openly using drugs if you, yourself are looking for recovery."

I missed the part where the mothers offered alternative solutions to homelessness and drug addiction.

Y’all know city officials are getting a cut from the drug sales. 🤣🤣🤣 corruption corrupt politician

Furthermore, there’s addicts here whether we like it or not. So it would make perfect sense to centralize these activities so that resources won’t be stretched thin and SF can learn to coordinate their human services better.

I find it quite irritating when people look at this and say that this kind of place is a “paradise” for addicts. Claiming that the City is ‘giving’ them freebies and enabling the addicts. HAS ANYONE SEEN THESE CAMPS? There’s no paradise there. People go there to get help.

SF supervisor seeks ballot initiative to tax property owners who leave housing units vacantThe goal is to incentivize property investors who leave homes vacant until the market is in their favor to list or rent the property. The city of Vancouver implemented a similar tax and saw vacancies decrease by 20%. This is not going to end well. You pay property tax on it if it is used or not, so now you want to double tax people. Good thinking.

SF DA Boudin fires back at Police Chief Scott as feud intensifiesThe feud between two of San Francisco’s top law enforcement officials continued Tuesday – this time with District Attorney Chesa Boudin accusing police Chief Bill Scott of violating an agreement between the offices that is at the center of a swirling controversy around police reform and use of force. A privileged white man attacking the actions of a black man. It's sad that in 2022, this is going on but I'm not surprised. Boudin's office should be investigated by the Bar Association for major ethics violations. chesaboudin is liar.
