Maybe it is because many of us are working. It could be all the open stores and laundromats.

But most people do not think that today’s federal holiday for the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. ranks up there as one of the nation’s important ones.

Just 34% told the Rasmussen Reports survey team that it is “most important.” Another 13% called it the “least important” federal holiday. And the bulk, 48%, said its importance is “somewhere in between.” But the results also suggested that how the nation feels about the importance of the day should not detract from how they view the man most famous for his nonviolent demonstrations for civil and black rights before he was assassinated in 1968.

The polling outfit said 83% of voters have a favorable opinion of King, including 50% who have a very favorable opinion.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER “The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 40% of American adults think the nation has reached the day when men and women of all races have equal opportunity, just like King preached about in his famous ‘I Have A Dream’ speech 60 years ago. Forty-eight percent feel the United States has not reached a time of equal opportunity. Twelve percent are not sure,” the pollster said.

The article literally says 82% believe it is important. The thinly veiled truth is that 48% believe it at least comes in second to the 4th of July.

Because it hasn't been commercialized like New Years, Valentine's, 4th, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. We link commercialization with importance.

I never believed the FBI would persecute MLK for the Democrats, pressure him to kill himself and show such hate for Americans until I saw petestrzok tweets and testimony. Such hate.

I never believed the FBI would persecute MLK for the Democrats, pressure him to kill himself and show such hate for Americans until I saw petestrzok tweets and testimony.

Not to mention Democrats have shelved MLK's belief that a man be judged on the content of his character and not the color of his skin. Democrats are definitely the party of suppression and discrimination--first against the blacks, now against the whites.

That's their problem

I didn’t mind Martin Luther King Day until we’ve turned it into the reparations day blame white people for all problems day.

Well, when you make a rapist/misogynist the face of a holiday instead of a general 'Civil Rights Day' that celebrates *everyone* who has fought for civil rights, yeah, some of us aren't going to take it that seriously.

Well, MLK was pretty based. We celebrate him and his teachings, they’re solid. Unfortunately, he’s not woke enough for the modern day liberal.

It's pretty pointless now that the scourge of racial essentialism has returned

woke teachings goes against what mlk stood for.

The Gospel of Hoover and Martin Luther KingDr. Lerone A. Martin is Martin Luther King, Jr. Centennial Professor and director of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Research and Education Institute at Stanford... Looking forward to this book. I always recommend JamesEllroy's 'Underworld U.S.A. Trilogy' portrayal of the sixties, which saw MLK's assasination bookended by same for JFK and RFK. Unlikely these were isolated events.
