Many governors, including New Jersey's Phil Murphy, are wondering about what comes next as the pandemic reaches two years.

pandemic enters its third year, most Americans said in a new poll that they’re ready to live with the virus and move on, in part because so many people refuse to be vaccinated., 70% of Americans agreed that it was “we accept that COVID is here to stay and we just need to get on with our lives,” with just 28% disagreeing. In addition, only 34% said they believed U.S.

“Americans’ worries about COVID haven’t gone away,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. “It seems more to be a realization that we are not going to get this virus under control in a way that we thought was possible just last year.” The reason? Millions of Americans refuse to be vaccinated. In the poll, 17% of Americans, including 25% of self-described Republicans, said they would never get a shot. Even more, 30%, including 50% of Republicans, said the chances of them getting booster were very unlikely or not at all.

“A key factor in the public’s inclination to accept having to live with COVID is the intransigence of a sizable segment of the population on vaccination,” Murray said. “It seems unlikely that herd immunity could ever be achieved through preventative measures.”
