Russian authorities are cracking down on the allies and supporters of political opposition leader Alexei Navalny, as protests are planned in cities across the country.

This also comes as two close associates of Navalny were detained Wednesday ahead of the planned protests. The organization also reported that police searched the offices of Navalny's organization in Yekaterinbrug and detained a Navalny-affiliated journalist in Khabarovsk. Soon after, a court ordered Navalny to serve 2 1/2 years in prison for the embezzlement conviction, which the European Court of Human Rights deemed to be"arbitrary and manifestly unreasonable."
