More county sheriffs say they won't enforce Illinois assault weapons ban

As CBS 2 Investigator Megan Hickey reported Friday, some of the sheriffs' statements vary – but all of them cite Second Amendment constitutional concerns.

So far in the greater Chicago area, the list includes the DeKalb, DuPage, McHenry, LaSalle, Grundy, Kankakee, and Kane County sheriffs.Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain's stance is a little more nuanced than the rest. He said Friday that his office will not"proactively investigate" legal, Firearm Owners Identification card-holding gun owners and seize their weapons.

Hickey asked Hain what he would say to critics who argue it is not the duty of the sheriff to interpret the Constitution. Gov. JB Pritzker on Thursday called the collective stance by the sheriffs political grandstanding. Attorney General Kwame Raoul said if sheriffs' deputies will not enforce the law, others law enforcement agencies will.

Because it's a law that is flawed inherently. Assault weapons have been banned in the US since WW1... A tactical rifle isn't an assault weapon. It does not have select fire or automatic options. In addition to the fact that it is constitutionally unsound.

Beyond law enforcement there are more gun sanctuary counties in Illinois than there are counties that will enforce this gun ban. No one is going to comply to JB and his Northshore bourgeoisie and their demands.

So why is it ok for them to disobey the law? Yet, they can go arrest whoever they see breaking the law?

A breakdown in civil society. If you cannot enforce laws you disagree with, you step down and fight politically (without using your position) to change the laws you disagree with. They are not the arbiters of the constitution in our system.

A Sheriff stated he is not going to enforce the ban because he is not going into law abiding citizens homes. How does he know whether or not the gun owner is law-abiding or has I'll feelings?He's only going after the criminals who have these guns. How are they getting these guns
