After obtaining a search warrant, deputies found 38 dogs, 28 of which had injuries or scarring consistent with dog fighting, according to Penn’s written plea agreement. Veterinarians treated dogs but had to euthanize 22 of them, according to court records. Deputies also seized a number of items pointing to dogfighting, including modified treadmills used to condition the dogs; injectable veterinary canine medications and syringes; a weighted dog vest; chains and weighted collars; and a training pool.
Penn was on supervised release following a prison term stemming from a 2017 drug conspiracy conviction. Prosecutors have asked a judge to revoke his supervised release and send him back to prison.
